A Trex® composite fence is designed to withstand prolonged exposure to the elements. However, as durable as this material is, it’s still susceptible to getting dirty every now and then. Dust, dirt and grime can accumulate on the surface, leaving behind an unsightly layer that greatly impacts its looks. Keeping your fence clean will not only extend its lifespan, but will also help improve your home’s curb appeal.

Let our fencing professionals at Guarantee Fence Company show you a few simple steps on how you can clean your Trex® fencing and keep it looking brand-new for as long as possible.

General Instructions

We recommend a thorough cleaning at least twice every year. Spring and fall make for ideal seasons to schedule your cleaning, as the weather is often most cooperative during these times of the year. The best products to use are composite deck cleaning solutions available in your local handyman store.

Any other substance can be too harsh and affect the performance of your fence, particularly for a security fence installation. Alternatively, you may also use a 50-50 mixture of water and mild soap as well as a soft-bristled brush if the cleaning solution is unavailable.

Cleaning Your Fence

Dirt, dust and earth can be scrubbed away easily by a brush and your preferred cleaning solution. Trex products naturally produce tannin, which could appear as water spots throughout your fence. This is normal and should not require cleaning as it will fade away on its own in about 12 weeks.

Pressure washing may sound like an easy solution, but we do not recommend using a pressure washer for Trex fencing materials. This could potentially damage the surface coating, leading to early deterioration. Using a pressure washer will also void your warranty, should you incur damages during its use.
